Sightseeing in Yokohama

Yokohama ranks among the most popular tourist spots in Japan. In 2009, more than 54 million tourists visited Yokohama and enjoyed the many attractions Yokohama as Japans second biggest metropolis has to offer.

Besides marvelous Minato Mirai 21 (see here some pictures), a bustling area best described as a mix of skyscrapers (including Japan's highest building, Yokohama Landmark Tower), beautiful promenades, shopping streets, museums and historical sites like the old Red Brick Warehouses, Yokohama is also home to one of the biggest Chinatowns (see here some pictures) in the world.

There are of course many more attractive tourist spots scattered about the city, like the old foreign settlement and cemetery in Yamate Area, Sankeien Garden, Zoorasia (one of Japan's biggest zoological gardens) and Sea Paradise (aquarium and marine centre).

Furthermore, Yokohama makes a great starting point for day trips in the Kanto area around Tokyo and Yokohama, especially to the old feudal capital of Kamakura (reachable directly within 25 minutes from Yokohama Station).
